The company grew out of our passion for cooking and the joy of sharing meals with friends and family during holidays and get-togethers. But there was always one problem: Dull knives everywhere we went! Sound familiar? It was so frustrating, we started bringing our own cutlery to every occasion, just to be sure there would be a good sharp knife to use.

As a result, our own knives eventually got dull as well. So, we bought gizmo after gizmo, hoping for a simple solution. It turned out, most of them were just expensive gadgets that either damaged our blades, did a poor job, or did nothing at all, and filled up another junk drawer.

The Wizard and The Robot

So, we set out to find a "professional" and took our favorite knife to a cutlery store to visit the "Wizard"... and they murdered our favorite knife! 😫 Just DESTROYED it! 🧨💥 We said, "What is this?!" and they said, "Pay at the register." To replace our favorite knife, we called the manufacturer thinking it’s “Worth a shot!”, got them on the phone and they said, “We cannot.” (Insert bad words here 😡, thank you.) Then, we went to see "Robbie the Robot" at the hardware store and found out that "Robbie" was a little picky and could only handle certain types of knives. We said, "Huh?" and they said, "Yep." That was a wasted trip. Finally, curious to see "It" work, and after running around town had made us berserk, we went back with the "right type" of knife and watched that little robot come to life: Whirrr, zip, bzzzt, brrrp! With hands in our pockets, watching it twist and jerk, we turned to the associate and asked, "Did it work?" He said, "Nope, let's try it again." Tired and confused, we said, "No thanks, partner. This is the end." We drove all those miles out of desperation and hope, only to find we're mad enough to eat a bar of soap. "Robbie" put on a cute little show, but getting our knife back, we were like, "This is a no-go!" We came with a purpose, hands in the air and left with a crappy knife needing to get away from there. It felt like putting our money in a vending machine, hoping for a grape soda with all the zest, but instead, we got handed a can of flat lemonade for our quest! At least they said, "Oops, sorry y'all."

Deciding our knives couldn’t take it anymore, we declared “never again” and vowed then and there to take up the challenge of learning the fascinating art of sharpening steel the proper way—and WE DID! And word got out! Then at various gatherings our friends and family began bringing their knives, asking us to put our skills to work for them—and WE DID! And then word got out some more! Eventually, we got so many requests to sharpen and repair knives, with people offering to pay us, that's when we went, “Wait a minute… Bing!” And that's the story of how our business began. Life's a many-splendored thing, ain’t it?

Shamrock Sharp Shop – we named ourselves this because it's a bit of a tongue twister, and we wanted a name that would stick with you! Try saying it fast three times in a row. We're pretty sure you'll be chuckling and remembering us for a minute or two. Our name, more than anything, is a loving remembrance of our Irish family, Ms. Mattie Dunlavey O'Bannon, the heart of our O'Bannon clan, and all our loved ones—Alton, Brooks, Altona, Martha Ann, and so many more—we miss you all very dearly every day.
